How the projection works

  1. Month 1 starts with the initial investment converted to shares at the starting price.
  2. From month 2, each monthly contribution buys shares at that month’s price.
  3. Each month’s distribution = shares × price × (annual yield ÷ 12).
  4. Tax at your rate is withheld; the rest is reinvested at the same price (or paid out as cash if reinvestment is off).
  5. The share price then changes by the monthly equivalent of the annual price change.

The yield input is net of the fund’s expense ratio when you use the SEC yield, so fees are not subtracted again. Trading costs and bid/ask spreads are ignored; SGOV’s are typically very small. See methodology.

We are building a daily NAV history from official data; a historical backtest will be added once enough history is collected.

Frequently asked questions

Does SGOV have a DRIP?

SGOV itself does not run a dividend reinvestment plan; reinvestment is offered by your brokerage. Most major US brokers let you turn on automatic reinvestment per holding, usually buying fractional shares on the pay date.

Why is the default price change 0%?

SGOV pays out the interest it earns, so its share price does not trend upward over time the way a stock fund’s can. Its NAV has stayed in a narrow range (the 52-week NAV range is $100.27–$100.73). Growth comes from distributions, not price.

Is reinvesting SGOV distributions tax free?

No. Reinvested distributions are taxable in the year paid in a taxable account, exactly like cash distributions. Enter your combined tax rate to see the drag, or leave it at 0% for an IRA or 401(k).

How accurate is a 10-year SGOV projection?

Treat it as a scenario, not a prediction. SGOV’s yield follows short-term Treasury rates, which have ranged from near 0% (2020–2021) to above 5% (2023–2024) since the fund launched. A constant-yield projection cannot capture that. Try several yields to see a range.
