Short answer: SGOV closed at $100.66 on Oct 23, 2026. Over the past 52 weeks its NAV ranged only from $100.27 to $100.73, a 0.46% band. That stability is by design: SGOV pays out its interest monthly instead of letting the price grow.
The SGOV sawtooth: why the price rises, then drops
Every day, the Treasury bills SGOV holds move a little closer to maturity and earn a day’s interest. That interest accumulates in the fund, nudging the NAV up by roughly the daily yield. On the ex-dividend date at the start of each month, the accumulated income is distributed and the NAV drops by about the distribution amount. On a chart, this produces a small sawtooth that repeats every month.
A practical consequence: buying just before the ex-date and selling right after does not earn free money. You receive the distribution but the price falls by about the same amount, and the distribution is taxable.
Price vs NAV
The NAV is the value of SGOV’s holdings per share, calculated by iShares at 4:00 pm ET. The market price is what buyers and sellers pay on the exchange. Because SGOV is very large ($116,778,844,862 in net assets) and its holdings are easy to value, authorized participants keep the price extremely close to NAV. The latest premium/discount was 0.00%.
